Meet Susan Sheppard
Sheppard’s professional career has expanded over thirty years in the GTA working with large corporations, small business and national charities. She has been instrumental in the development and expansion of new businesses and community initiatives. Sheppard is an experienced leader responsible for overall operations with strong project management skills including strategic planning and oversight. She owned and operated two GTA retail franchises and consulted on local, national, international events on behalf of national corporations. Sheppard chose Oakville as her home to raise her family and contribute to community over 25 years ago.
She led community initiatives including the Bronte Butterfly Foundation, Oakville’s Millennium Committee and Ontario Special Olympics Provincial Games. All of which, created lasting legacies for the community of Oakville.
In 2003, Sheppard became a vocal advocate for children’s education initiating a moratorium on school closures and was elected as Halton District School Board Trustee to represent northwest Oakville in the Municipal Elections. Her dedication and persistence resulted in four new schools planned and built in northwest Oakville. She sat on numerous school parent councils over several years including both elementary and high schools, as well as teaching Sunday school.
Sheppard believes in service to her community and has helped raise funds for local organizations including Oakville Trafalgar Hospital Foundation, Lighthouse for Grieving Children, Salvation Army and Food4Kids. She is a recipient of the Rotary International Paul Harris Fellowship Award for service above self and was an ATHENA nominee for her dedication to the community of Oakville.
A widow for several years, Sheppard married Stephen Firth in 2007 and their blended family now includes five sons and their families.
Oakville is a wonderful town in which to live, work and raise a family and Sheppard looks forward to the opportunity of representing Oakville as Town Councillor Ward 4. The municipal election is Monday, October 22, 2018 and Sheppard welcomes your support and thanks you for your vote!
